(06/09/10) A dynamic New Zealander named Justin St. Vincent has spearheaded an inspiring book and web project exploring the connections between music and spirituality; to date he has conducted interviews with over 1000 musicians on the subject. JSK is now among them find his profile and downloadable interview here.
"INTRODUCING MUZUNDRUM" VIDEO COMPLETED (06/08/10) JSK and Andy Markley of ART101 finished editing the first in a series of Muzundrum videos. This one's a kind of a snappy little ad; actual "how-to" videos are on their way. Many thanks to Hugh Lawson and Al Hernandez for their camera work, and to John Steiner for joining Jeff in the game!
THE JEN CONFERENCE (06/01/10) JSK and partner Hugh Lawson exhibited Muzundrum: The Game of Musicians at the Jazz Education Network 2010 Conference at the University of Missouri, Saint Louis on May 20-23. Countless games were played, and much buzz was created among the students and educators in attendance ... and the fanastic amount of hot, big band jazz was most inspiring, especially from the younger players. Musicianship has not fallen into Garage Band hell after all -- people are still actually playing and writing! Hallelujah.
MUZORACLE AND THE SOUTHWEST (06/01/10) On the way out to St. Louis, Jeff stopped at many music stores and metaphysical book shops. There was much positive response, especially for Muzoracle, and especially in the Southwest. Jeff will be returning there to Sedona, Albuquerque, and Denver for a start -- in the fall for a series of workshops and performances. Stay tuned.
NEW RECORDING PROJECT WITH JOHN STEINER WELL UNDERWAY (04/29/10) John Steiner's "Arise" concert in March inspired a new recording project, also titled "Arise". John is playing piano, guitar, and bass; JSK is backing him on bowls and bells, and playing some piano as well. The CD will include compositions by both artists. Recording began at Hoofhaven on April 19th, and will resume again mid-June. Stay tuned for developments.
"ARISE" CONCERT IN SAN RAFAEL A SUCCESS (04/02/10) Philomuse artist John Steiner played a concert in celebration of Spring in San Rafael on March 27th. JSK backed him with bowls, bells, and a bit of spoken word, and one of Jeff's compositions was also included. Their collaboration has inspired a new recording project see next item.
Changing hats: Jeff takes the piano, John does the bowls in San Rafael
